DONNA VALIANT
Physiotherapist, Ergonomist.

Donna Valiant is a Physiotherapist with over 20 years experience. She has been working in the field of occupational health and injury management for the last 13 years and has built Catalyst Injury Management, over the last 10 years into a thriving and successful business, helping workplaces manage the health and wellbeing of their employees.

Donna graduated as a physiotherapist in England and later studied in Australia in the field of ergonomics, giving her a wide range of knowledge to assist employers manage workplace health and safety. She has also worked in an advisory role for WorkCover Queensland and currently liaises with QComp on rehabilitation issues as a representative of the Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA). Donna is an active member of the APA and represents her profession in the field of occupational health at a national level, liaising with peak bodies and promoting her profession.

Donna is a leader in the education of physiotherapists in this emerging field, both at an undergraduate and post graduate level. In 2005 she was presented with the Award for Excellence by her peers for her commitment to her chosen field.

Her passion is broadening the field of physiotherapy into the occupational setting and letting industry and insurers know that physiotherapist do this stuff really well!

When she does relax, it is over a good book and a nice glass of Red.

MARINA VITALE
Senior Physiotherapist, Rehabilitation Consultant

Once graduated from the University of Queensland in 1989 with a Bachelor of physiotherapy, Marina spent almost 10 years in various roles at the Princess Alexandra Hospital.  She has specialised in acute and elective orthopaedic conditions including experience in the Spinal Injuries Unit, physiotherapy consulting for the Artificial Limbs Scheme of Queensland, as well as being seconded by the Physiotherapy Department at the University of Queensland for the position of associate lecturer to supervise the final year undergraduate students completing their clinical orthopaedic unit. In between having 3 children, she has continued private practice experiencing most acute medical and surgical conditions in all major private hospitals in Brisbane.

Needing a new challenge in her career, Marina completed various courses in the occupational health, training and assessing  and now has 3 years experience in a wide range of industries and insurance settings and has exceptional case management and negotiation skills.

Marina loves adventure and can claim climbing Mt Kinabalu (4100m), in Borneo as one of her major “recreational” activities, though she is also an accomplished musician and singer!

BRONWYN MAKRIS
Physiotherapist

Bronwyn qualified in 1994 with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy from Otago University New Zealand. She then spent one year working in New Zealand as a rotational physiotherapist consolidating her knowledge before taking up the opportunity to combine travel with work, in Europe. While abroad she worked for nine years in a private rehabilitation hospital for spinal cord injuries, treating patients from around the world. During that period she also set up, marketed and ran a hydrotherapy pool.

Bronwyn then moved to another hospital working in prosthetics as a sole charge physiotherapist for a year. From there she worked as a consultant at the Athens rehabilitation hospital for spinal cord injuries for nine months. On moving to Australia she worked part time for the Queensland Spinal Cord Injury Service in all aspects of rehabilitation within the hospital in the initial rehabilitation, transitional rehabilitation program, Spinal Outreach Team. 

Bronwyn also worked part time for two years at a hydrotherapy practice.

JUDY DUNNING
Physiotherapist, Ergonomist

Judy received a Bachelor of Physiotherapy - University of Queensland and swiftly followed this with a Masters of Physiotherapy Studies (Manipulative Physiotherapy) from the University of Queensland. She is currently undertaking a Masters of Ergonomics at University of New South Wales and has a graduate Diploma in Ergonomics already under her belt.

Judy has 10 years experience in injury management, working with  Catalyst Injury Management  since September 2001 providing occupational rehabilitation services including manual handling training; worksite assessment; return to work and injury management programs; suitable duties programs; on site injury assessment and treatment and pre-employment screening.

She also has been a  Case manager, WorkCover Qld from May 1999 to August 2001 providing active case/claims management for injured workers and has a wide range of case management and early intervention services. She now works contractually with CIM.

Judy is also an accredited COMCARE provider and a Workplace Assessor and Trainer.

Accredited Exercise Physiologist

Charlene Hanley is a qualified allied health professional who specializes in the delivery of exercise, lifestyle and behavioural modification programs for the prevention and management of chronic diseases and injuries. She provides physical activity and behaviour change support for clients with conditions such as musculo-skeletal injury, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, osteoporosis, depression, arthritis, COPD and many other conditions.  

As an accredited Exercise Physiologist with Australian Association for Exercise and Sports Science (AAESS), Charlene is qualified to comprehensively assess an individual’s exercise capacity and can ensure that participation is safe and achieves the optimum outcomes for all sectors of the population. She is also registered with Medicare Australia, the Department of Veterans Affairs and her qualification also gives her recognition among a wide range of insurers.
 
Charlene’s ultimate goal in her career and in life is to erase the word ‘Diabesity’ from the Australian health and fitness community whilst creating an environment where exercise is a hobby rather than a chore.

Rehabilitation Counsellor

Casey started out life wanting to be a sports teacher but soon found that her calling was more to a supporting and energizing role and changed her studies to a Bachelor of Human Services specialising in Rehabilitation Counselling at Griffith University. She still keeps up her love of sport (netball in particular) but now uses her professional skills to assist people in their vocational goals and offers a wide range of vocational services top insurers and industry.

Because of her warm and empathetic personality she builds rapport easily with her clients and has excellent case management skills. 

Casey is a Member of Rehabilitation Counselling Association of Australasia (RCAA) and is on the committee as a recent graduate.

As a post graduate she has volunteered at the International Forum on Disability Management, Brisbane 2006 and plans to continue her study in the field over the coming years.

 

MICHELLE ALEXANDER
Psychologist

Michelle Alexander is a registered psychologist who has been providing counselling services to the community for over 5 years. Michelle has completed a Bachelor Social Science (Hons), Psychology and Bachelor of Arts, Psychology.

Michelle has broad practice experience working with clients with mild and severe mental health issues. She has specialist knowledge working with children and adults who have behaviour management issues.

Michelle’s areas of interest include the treatment of depression, anxiety, grief, work related stress, developmental delays, family breakdown and other emotional issues. Michelle uses evidence-based therapy such as cognitive behaviour therapy and motivational interviewing to improve the quality of people’s lives.

Michelle is an Associate Member of Australian Psychological Society (APS).

TIM BLACKWOOD

After spending two years traveling, Tim returned to tertiary studies to undertake a Bachelor of Applied Science at Monash University, completing it in 1993.

Since then, he has gained more than 15 years experience in management and finance.

Tim’s role within Catalyst Injury Management is financial management and business growth. He also likes to encourage everyone to continue to be fit and healthy with support for gym memberships and the start of the corporate triathlon program at CIM.

He has a tough job but someone has to do it.

RACHAEL PEEBLES

Rachael joined the Catalyst Injury Management team in May 2006 with the opening of the Beenleigh office. With her knowledge and expertise from accounting and business courses and prior employment positions, Rachael’s focus is on the company accounting, Information Technology and coordinating the administration duties within the office.

Focusing on returning to study and gaining greater knowledge of the industry, she is keen to grow with the company and gain new experiences.

If you have called Catalyst Injury Management of recent times, you will no doubt have been received by the friendly and professional voice of Lauren Shield.  Lauren joined CIM in 2008 and brings to the team a history in the field of reception, administration and clerical skills. She has worked in a wide range of settings including insurance and building. Lauren will always go out of her way to ensure that any communication with Catalyst Injury Management is positive and pleasant.
