Psychological Intervention

The return to work of workers recovering from a psychological injury requires a comprehensive understanding of the individual and the work environment. The individual brings inherent personality characteristics and predisposition, where as the environment has characteristics such as job demand, resources, management expectations, work colleague expectations and customer/client demands to consider.

The return to work for a worker with a psychological injury requires the match between all of these characteristics to be corresponding and monitored well and have all parties in tune with the process.

Vocational Rehabilitation

When the return to work goal for an injured employee is to find employment with a new employer, CIM Health staff will work closely with the rehabilitation case manager to develop a return to work plan in consultation with the treating doctor.

Activities that CIM Health will utilise to support the successful redeployment of an injured employee could include:

  • A Vocational Assessment is introduced after all other apparent possibilities to return to the same employer have been pursued by the employer and further assistance is required. Using the hierarchy of Return to Work, CIM Health can assist the injured employee in identifying their transferable skills to engage in modified duties within their workplace or to seek alternative employment.
  • Transferable skills analysis: focusing on the client’s current skills sets and strengths which can be transferred into other vocational areas. Can identify alternative areas of work or the need for further training/work experience.
  • Host, work trial and retraining (on the job): short term host employment/work experience to provide clients with opportunity to:
    • The opportunity to gain new skills in a new vocation
    • The opportunity to seek employment through industry contacts
    • Obtaining a current referee for future employment

CIM Health has been assisting people in their return to work for many years and have an excellent understanding of the labour market and what a person needs to find work. CIM Health also has an excellent understanding of the Job Network through our extensive experience in Occupational Rehabilitation and our Disability Employment Services. Through our Disability Employment Services, CIM Health has built relationships with a large number of employers within the Brisbane region and successfully placed many of our clients into viable employment. We have access to current labour market information that may not be available in the open market and have Employment Consultants constantly sourcing new avenues for employment with our clients.

Tailored Multi-Disciplinary Programme

Some people who experience injury in the workplace benefit from a co-ordinated approach with a range of professionals to manage the return to work process. A well designed individual or small group programme that has an educational, exercise and cognitive behavioural approach to injury, can have success in addressing the barriers to returning to work. CIM Health offers this programme to a range of insurers and private agencies currently with optimal outcomes. The programme is designed for small groups (max 6 clients) and is tailored to meet the needs of the injured person.
